Connie
Vu received her bachelor's degree at the University of Oklahoma
where she developed a deep interest in the field of psychology.
Her undergraduate research was on the effects of stereotype threat
on opinion formation. Her most rewarding and unforgettable experience
to date has been volunteering as an operator for the University's
Number Nyne Crisis Hotline. She also interned for Dr. Stephanie
Porterfield at the University of Oklahoma's Counseling and Testing
Center where she helped plan and implement outreach activities
for college students. Prior to joining the SHN, Connie held an
internship at the National Mental Health Association in Alexandria,
Virginia. There she helped research and develop material for the
2005 Back-to-School kit, a resource packet for parents and teachers
that emphasizes the importance of children's mental health. During
that time, she also worked as a mentor at the Vietnamese American
Community Service Center in Washington, DC. Connie will serve
as a research associate at the Self-Help Network as she continues
her graduate studies.
