Candy has been with Self-Help Network since December 1998. As the Operations Coordinator, her responsibilities include working with an active Community Advisory Council and facilitating the Self-Help Network Infrastructure Team. She is responsible for developing and implementing office procedures, handling office issues, and working with the Budget Coordinator. In addition to these activities, Candy works with Project Facilitators to brainstorm and develop theme ideas. Based on customized facilitation design, Candy manages all aspects of logistics need for training including location, catering, procurement, schedule, materials, as well as personal and e-mail communication with meeting stakeholders. In addition, she manages staffing levels for general office performance, develops systems to enhance the support staff’s ability to handle complex projects, oversees meetings and communications with the SHN’s community advisory council, and also coordinates special promotional events.

Candy has served in many roles prior to joining Self-Help Network. She was a legal assistant with Pizza Hut Law Department, Registrar at Coleman Middle School, and Executive Oil Secretary with Kansas Petroleum, Inc. Candy has also been very active in the community through 15 years of volunteering in the public school system with everything from Room Mother, Brownie Scout Leader, and PTA President to starting the Girls’ Basketball Booster Club at Southeast High School. A long time member of Plymouth Congregational Church, she has been a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, and Chairperson of the New Membership Committee. Currently, Candy is Branch President of Lambda Tau Delta, a local philanthropic sorority that supports Heartspring. Candy has a Bachelor of Science degree in History from Wichita State University.

As the daughter of a career Air Force pilot, Candy traveled extensively as a child, and quickly learned the best way to get to know people is to strike up a conversation. Her open and friendly style is a direct result of being the “new kid on the block” many times.

Candy’s husband, John, is a local architect. They have two daughters, Ashley and Lindsay. She is a history buff who loves to read, garden, talk, and cook.
