Heidi has been with Self-Help Network since June 1999. As a Community and Organizational Specialist, Heidi assists grassroots, non-profit organizations operated by persons with mental illness with technical support to help them become self-sufficient organizations. Through our Consumer Run Organization team, the technical assistance and support she provides includes board training and shared leadership, obtaining non-profit 501(c) 3 status, development of policies, by-laws and articles of incorporation, bookkeeping, program planning, design and implementation.

Heidi received her B.S. in management from Tabor College, Hillsboro, KS and has more than nine years experience in grant writing and budget management. She also has a background in management and organizational development. Heidi serves on the board of the Kansas Professional Grant Association. She is also a member of the Recovery Conference Planning Committee of the Kansas Consumer Advisory Council. As the lead person at the Network working on the Recovery Conference, Heidi makes it happen. For the last two years, only Century II was large enough for this "movement building" event that has drawn over 500 Kansas consumer leaders and over 200 mental health professionals. The Recovery Conference has had nationally recognized keynote speakers, excellent workshops taught by Kansas consumers and great dances, really great dances, but more importantly an atmosphere that promotes relationship and empowerment. Heidi has played a big part in all of this.

The enthusiasm Heidi has for her work comes from a compassion for people and the delight in watching people grow and walking beside them as they make those transformations. A favorite quote of hers is one from Max De Pree about utilizing each individual's unique gifts and talents:

"Everyone comes with certain gifts-but not the same gifts. True participation and enlightened leadership allows these gifts to be expressed in different ways and at different times."

She is married to Jack and a mother of two, Brett and Taylor. She enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, reading, swimming, and water skiing.
