Seth
Bate joined the Self-Help Network in 2006. He is helping to design
and facilitate a new phase of the Kansas Community Leadership
Initiative and facilitating the Visioneering Wichita strategic
alliance on early childhood issues.
A skilled
facilitator, Seth has worked with nonprofit organizations around
the state. His specialized training in community, organizational
and leadership development includes the U.S. Chamber of Commerce
Institute for Organizational Management, the Nebraska Community
Foundation HomeTown Competitiveness course and the Kansas Master
Facilitator project. Seth has become well known in conferences
and workshops as the guy who always has a guitar with him, just
in case a sing-along breaks out.
After winning
the Kennedy Center’s national award for critical arts writing,
Seth studied at the Kennedy Center and the Eugene O’Neill
Theatre Center National Critics Institute. His freelance writing
has appeared in national magazines and on KMUW radio. He has also
worked as a reporter and editor for two Kansas community newspapers.
Seth and his
wife Jennifer are very active in the community of Winfield where
they have managed the local farmers’ market for 10 years.
They have both received the Cornerstone Citizen award for community
service. Seth and Jenny have two young children.
